2021 Habits
New series of paintings exploring habits both human and plant.
I meditate, write pages, drink coffee, study Spanish, paint, and walk the dog two times daily.
I repeat and structure the day with small directed events. Focus music, sleep music forgets what happened 40 years ago.
A Grid of words sets the intention, a grid of nonsense with no expectations.
I long for an intermingling of habits.
Walks and paintings dip into the blooming honeysuckle on Ivy street. I try to get that smell forever.
I love impossible tangles of honeysuckle grapes and roses, picking them apart by scent or by painting each vine, twines that intermingle with the letter scaffolds.
I especially love different colors of leaves being hit by light versers light passing through the same leaf, like a stained window. Finding the exact two pigments to load my brushes.
I am a witness but so are the windows that look down on all that is blooming.
My brush barely touches the paper, best one stroke, maybe two if necessary. Trying to make it look easy.
