The term giclée (pronounced "Zhee-clay") is a French term for "spray." The term originated in the early 1990s with the emergence of digital inkjet printmaking. A traditional giclée print would have been printed from a Scitex Iris inkjet printer. Today, giclée prints are produced on one of many types of printers, such as Epson, HP or Canon. Advances in printer and ink technology have allowed for much greater tonal range, detail, and colorfastness in today's giclée prints.
